Michigan Baseball: What’s next in Big Ten tournament, how to watch
The Michigan baseball team stayed alive with a win on Wednesday. Here’s a look at the path ahead for the Wolverines and how to watch the Big Ten tournament.
Michigan baseball was able to keep its season alive and notched a 6-3 win over Illinois on Wednesday, which got the team back to 27-27 overall.
It’s been an up-and-down season for Michigan baseball but a five-game losing streak going into Wednesday’s game made it feel like it could be the end.
However, Noah Rennard and Jacob Denner responded on the mound, while Ted Buron and Jack Van Remortel delivered at the plate.
Following a day off on Thursday, Michigan baseball now knows its opponent for Friday’s game which is set for 2 PM central time on Big Ten Network.
What’s next for Michigan baseball in the Big Ten tournament?
The Wolverines won five games last year to win the Big Ten title and following the first-round loss to Iowa by a score of 13-3, they will need to do that again.
Michigan will need to eventually beat Iowa twice in order to advance to the championship game, but prior to that, the Wolverines need to knock off Indiana, another team that is expected to make the NCAA tournament.
The Wolverines are in win-or-go-home mode at this point. A loss and the season is 100 percent over. A win and Michigan will get a second chance against Iowa. The Wolverines would need to beat the Hawkeyes in consecutive games which would then get Michigan into a one-game Big Ten championship game.
Chase Allen seems likely to start on the mound Friday but you’ll probably see plenty of arms from the bullpen and a quick hook. There’s no tomorrow after all with a loss.
If the Wolverines do win, they would have the chance to play two games on Saturday, both against Iowa, and would need to win both to advance to Sunday.
It’s a tall order — the first key is getting a win on Friday.
