In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, former Michigan football player Tom Brady is buying an NFL team, some hoops updates, and more.

Tom Brady is the greatest former Michigan football player to ever play in the NFL. Brady also retired after the 2022 season and besides doing commercials, has been looking for his next venture.

It looks like the former Michigan Wolverines standout, who did lead U-M to an Orange Bowl victory, as well as a win over Ohio State as a Michigan football player, will take over as part owner of the Raiders according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

It’s an interesting move for Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl champion. Brady’s former offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is the head coach, plus his former backup, Jimmy G is slated to be the starter after getting $33 million in guarantees from Las Vegas this offseason.

So I guess this will end the speculation of Tom Brady returning to the field.

Michigan baskeball updates

The Michigan Wolverines learned that they will take on St. John’s next year as part of the Gavitt Games — the annual basketball competition between the Big Ten and the Big East. That will pit Juwan Howard against Rick Pitino, a guy Howard played against way back in the 1993 Final Four.

The Wolverines will play St. John’s on the road and you wonder if the game will get moved to Madison Square Garden by chance? I have no idea, it’s just always fun when the Wolverines play in that building and it would be a great TV matchup too.

In another news update that has to do with Michigan basketball, former signee Papa Kante, who was let out of his letter of intent by the Michigan Wolverines, found a new home as he landed with Pittsburgh on Monday.

It’s a nice move for the Panthers and Kante was another example of admissions causing a problem for the basketball team. He would have been a great addition for the Michigan Wolverines in 2023-24 and now, Michigan basketball is searching for a backup center in the transfer portal.

Michigan Wolverines open Big Ten tournament

The baseball team will try and defend its Big Ten tournament title beginning on Monday as the No. 6 seed. The Wolverines will take on Iowa at 10 AM CST today in Omaha in the opening round. Michigan baseball won five games as the No. 5 a season ago to win the Big Ten title but is nursing a four-game losing streak.

Third-seeded Iowa is one of the teams projected to make the NCAA tournament field, but the field is pretty wide open and you never know what could happen.
