The postseason has arrived for the Michigan baseball team and here’s how to watch the Wolverines this week at the 2023 Big Ten Tournament.

Last season, Michigan baseball went on an amazing run to the Big Ten tournament championship to advance to the NCAA tournament.

A few weeks after that, Erik Bakich was named as the head coach of Clemson and the 2023 Michigan baseball season hasn’t quite lived up to expectations.

Michigan baseball finished the regular season with a 13-11 record in Big Ten play. Only the top eight teams make the Big Ten tournament, so the Wolverines at least made the field, but they were tied for fourth going into the final week, before getting swept by Ohio State.

In all, the Wolverines have lost four straight games. None of the starting pitchers were able to put together quality starts and that will need to change if the Wolverines are going to have any chance of keeping their season alive past this week in Omaha.

Connor O’Halloran is expected to start the opening game for Michigan. That would give him four days rest from his last start. He’s been solid most of the year and the offense has potential with Cody Jefferis, Ted Buron, and Jimmy Obertop just returning to the lineup. Obertop belted two home runs in the loss to Ohio State on Friday.

Michigan will take on third-seeded Iowa in the first game which will be broadcast on Big Ten Network at 10 AM CST. It will be one of three opening-round matchups on day one of the Big Ten baseball tournament and here are the others via the Big Ten:

"“No. 2 seed Indiana (40-16) faces No. 7 seed Illinois (25-25) at 2 p.m. followed by top-seeded Maryland (37-19) versus No. 8 seed Michigan State (32-20) at 6 p.m. No. 4 seed Nebraska (31-21-1) encounters No. 5 seed Rutgers (33-21) on Wednesday at 2 p.m.”"

All those times are Central time by the way. We’ve seen Michigan baseball go on Big Ten title runs a couple of times in the past decade, maybe the Wolverines can do it again.

The Wolverines will need a win on Tuesday to help make that happen. With this team, it’s hard to know what to expect and that remains true going into the Big Ten tournament.
