In our latest Michigan Wolverines roundup, a 5-star defensive tackle will visit Michigan football, a timeline update for the transfer portal, and more.

When it comes to Michigan football recruiting, few players are more of a priority in the 2024 class than five-star defensive tackle Justin Scott.

The Michigan Wolverines are one of the teams firmly in the mix for the defensive tackle from Chicago, but Notre Dame, Miami, Georgia, Ohio State, and others have been making a strong push too.

Miami has been trending up and has taken over as the leader according to the On3 prediciton machine, but Michigan football still has positive momentum and according to Allen Trieu of 247 Sports, Scott will take his official visit on June 9th.

Scott will also visit Ohio State, Georgia, and Miami. The Hurricanes are trending up in a big way and Notre Dame seems to be on a downward trend, but we should get a better idea after Scott takes visits to Michigan football and others.

Latest on Michigan basketball and the transfer portal

It’s desperation time for the Michigan Wolverines in the transfer portal. Caleb Love decommitted and that leaves a huge hole in the lineup.

Phil Martelli talked about Love’s decommitment and told MLive that moves are coming;

"“We’re absolutely, positively not sitting here saying, ‘Boy, everything is great and this is the team we’re playing with. This will not be the team that will take the floor on July 1 for summer workouts. I’d say that confidently.”"

Martelli has always been great with the media. He was a former head coach and he talked about how things have changed with the transfer portal. It has put Michigan basketball in a tough spot.

Yet, he also said the Michigan basketball coaching staff wasn’t feeling sorry for itself. The rules are the rules. He also said the coaches aren’t admissions officers and it’s probably asking a lot for coaches to scout players for a fit, try to recruit them, and check their transcripts for admissions likelihood.

That’s not realistic and Martelli is smartly making that point. This type of thing is going to happen when the Michigan Wolverines target upperclassmen.

Michigan basketball needs to go after freshman and graduate transfers, whenever possible or it will be a risk, which does limit the field of additions.

Rayj Dennis is the top replacement target for Caleb Love and according to Davis Moseley of The Michigan Insider, a decision should come in the next week. Baylor and Illinois are also in the mix, so I wouldn’t hold my breath, Michigan basketball fans.
