Michigan Wolverines news: 5-star recruiting updates and much more
In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, we talk about some updates with five-star recruits for Michigan football and Michigan basketball, plus a lot more.
One thing we meant to touch on in our Saturday news roundup was the fact that Michigan basketball was included in the top-8 list for five-star center John Bol.
The Michigan Wolverines are a finalist for the 7-foot-2 center who is ranked 22nd overall by the 247 Sports composite rankings in 2024, as well as the No. 4 center. Wake Forest, Florida, Texas, USC, Missouri, UConn, and the Overtime Elite of the G-League are all in the mix.
UConn and Wake Forest just entered into the mix with offers this spring. Michigan basketball hosted Bol for an official visit last September and offered at the same time.
Of all the teams in the mix, I would have to think Michigan basketball is right there. Juwan Howard has done a great job of recruiting and developing bigs. We’ll see if he gets a chance with John Bol.
247 5-star DL includes Michigan Wolverines in top 10
One name we haven’t talked about as much in terms of Michigan football recruiting in the 2024 class is five-star defensive lineman Aydin Breland out of Mater Dei.
Breland is ranked as a five-star by 247 Sports own rankings, yet is ranked slightly lower (37th overall in the composite rankings). Still, the talent is evident. He’s 6-foot-5, 290 pounds, and ranked as the No. 6 defensive lineman overall.
Michigan football made his top 10 list but there are a bunch of other big-name programs on the list such as USC, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. So it won’t be easy.
Brandon Baker, a top target on the offensive line, is teammates with Breland. But he hasn’t visited campus yet according to On3.com or 247 Sports, so it’s hard to know how serious a threat Michigan football is, although any defensive lineman would be wise to consider U-M.
Here’s what he said to Greg Biggins of 247 Sports about Michigan football:
"“I haven’t been to Michigan yet but I talk a lot with coach Elston and Jay Harbaugh. I really like the way we communicate. They’re not stand-offish but they’re also not on me too heavy where I don’t feel like I can breath. They always hit me up at the times and I like what they have to say about the school. I’ve done zoom calls with coach Elston and he shows me the defense and how they want to use me and I like the fit. Plus it’s Michigan, it’s a great school all around.”"
