In-state point guard Durral Brooks committed to Michigan basketball on Sunday and here are three thoughts on the newest 2024 pledge.

There have been rumblings about a new Michigan basketball commitment for days and while it’s not a player from the transfer portal, the Wolverines added another solid piece to their 2024 recruiting class with a commitment from three-star point guard Durral Brooks.

Brooks is listed at 6-foot-2 and is No. 101 overall in the 2024 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s ranked 13th among point guards and is the top-ranked recruit in the state of Michigan in 2024.

Michigan State, Butler, and Dayton were some of the most prominent offers for Brooks but he chose the Wolverines on Sunday, and here are three thoughts on his commitment.

Eli Brooks vibes

This isn’t a shock because there were rumors about a commitment. However, I was a little surprised when Juwan Howard took a second point guard in the 2024 class. Christian Anderson has been committed for a couple of years now and the 5-foot-11 point guard is dynamic.

However, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense to me. For starters, Brooks is 6-foot-2 and is a really solid defender in addition to being a point guard. He averages 1.5 steals per game and when I watched his highlights, I totally got Eli Brooks vibes

Brooks played point guard in high school but was a combo guard for Michigan basketball and he was tremendously valuable. I wondered at one time if he could be a two-guard and he was actually really effective in that role.

It helped to have another ball-handler and shooter on the floor, plus he was known for defense. Brooks is a playmaker who needs to improve his 3-point shot. But he’s experienced in ball screens, and I think he could make sense as a combo guard.
