One of the top guards in the transfer portal visited Michigan basketball on Friday, plus a lot more in our Michigan Wolverines news roundup.

It was another busy news day for the Michigan Wolverines and we’ll start with some transfer portal talk for Michigan basketball.

The Wolverines are ramping up their pursuits in the portal, especially when it comes to guards. Michigan basketball has reached out to a couple of new guards this week and then it was reported on Friday that former Toledo guard Rayj Dennis visited U-M on Friday.

Dennis actually played against Michigan basketball in the NIT. He was the MAC Player of the Year and averaged 19.6 points and 5.8 assists per game. The 6-foot-2 guard also averaged 1.5 steals per game and made 36.5 percent from beyond the arc.

At first, you might wonder how he would fit with Dug McDaniel on the roster, but Michigan basketball needs more playmaking and shooting. Dennis could provide both.

I don’t know if that would push Dug to the bench or if both guards could play alongside each other. In spots, I’m sure they could. So it’s an interesting move.

Michigan basketball is still hoping to land another big and is waiting on Olivier Nkamhoua. If he doesn’t keep his name in the NBA draft, the sentiment is that he would join the Michigan Wolverines.

Adding Nkamhoua and Rayj Dennis to the roster would be something and feels like it would raise both the floor and the ceiling for Michigan basketball next season.

Michigan Wolverines gets another 2024 football commitment

The run of recruiting success continues for Michigan football as the Wolverines landed Cole Sullivan out of Pittsburgh on Friday night.

I really like this take for the Wolverines. He’s 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, and can do a bunch of different things. Last season, Sullivan had 117 tackles, four pass breakups, and two sacks.

It’s the 17th commitment overall for the Wolverines in the 2024 class. 11 of those prospects are ranked as four stars or higher. Sullivan is a three-star ranked just inside the top 600.
