Michigan Wolverines news: An interest in Keon Coleman, O-line ranked No. 2 for 2023, and more
In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, Michigan football has contacted Michigan State transfer Keon Coleman, plus much more.
Last weekend, Michigan State football lost two of its key players heading into the 2023 season and one of them, wide receiver Keon Coleman, has been contacted by the Michigan Wolverines.
Of course, Michigan football was among more than 50 college football programs to reach out to Coleman since he shocked Spartans fans and decided to transfer.
Payton Thorne has also left Michigan State via the portal and wound up at Auburn. But Coleman seems like an even bigger loss. Michigan football has also offered a cornerback this week, so the Michigan Wolverines clearly aren’t worried about the scholarship numbers.
I don’t know how realistic it would be for the Michigan Wolverines to get Coleman. He’s surely going to want a solid NIL package and he could already have a destination in mind. Coleman is setting up some visits and Michigan football isn’t getting one at this point.
Still, it’s good to see the Wolverines looking at every possible way to get better going into the 2023 season as they try to make another run at a national title.
Michigan football offensive line projected as No. 2 in 2023
On3.com has been ranking position groups in college football and when it comes to offensive line, Michigan football got the No. 2 ranking heading into the 2023 season.
Georgia got the No. 1 spot, which is probably fair. However, Michigan football has won the Joe Moore Award for the best offensive line in college football for two years running.
The Michigan Wolverines should be loaded again in 2023. They did lose two starters in Olu Oluwatimi and Ryan Hayes, but LaDarius Henderson from Arizona State and Drake Nugent from Stanford, multi-year Pac-12 starters, should assume those roles.
And if not, it will be due to the fact that some up-and-comers on the offensive line like Raheem Anderson or Trente Jones beat them out.
Michigan football has double-digit players capable of starting in the Big Ten. The group is as deep as it gets and regardless of the rankings, the O-line should be elite again next season.
