There has been talk of Michigan football being interested in a second quarterback in the 2024 class, but that’s not the case according to one report.

At the end of March, Michigan football landed its most important commitment in the 2024 recruiting class with the pledge of five-star QB Jadyn Davis.

Davis was the priority at the quarterback position for Michigan football dating back to June of 2022 and finally, in March, the Wolverines were able to close.

Michigan football has still been actively recruiting quarterbacks, but in the 2025 class as the focus clearly shifted once Davis committed to the Wolverines.

Yet, one of those 2025 prospects, Cutter Boley, caused a bit of a stir this week. Michigan football has been recruiting him hard and hosted him on campus for a couple of visits. Boley even told reporters that Michigan was near the top of his list.

Coley also said he was interested in re-classifying to the 2024 class, which got the topic started about Michigan possibly taking two quarterbacks in 2024.

Michigan football is taking just one QB in 2024

You can see how that rumor would be troublesome. The Wolverines don’t want to jeopardize anything with Davis, so according to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider, Michigan QB coach Kirk Campbell reached out to the Davis family to guarantee them U-M is only taking Davis in 2024.

So if Boley does wind up committing to Michigan football, it would be for the 2025 class. The Wolverines have zero interest in another 2024 quarterback and they shouldn’t.

And as much as I like Boley, the No. 3 quarterback in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Michigan football has a number of really good options.

Byrce Underwood is from Belleville, Michigan and the five-star is the No. 1 QB in the country in 2025. He just recently took this third visit this spring to see Michigan football, so that’s a really good sign.

The Wolverines are also heavily involved with Ohio top-100 quarterback Ryan Montgomery. So there’s no need to focus solely on Boley and there’s also no reason to even think about taking a second quarterback in 2024 and messing things up with Davis.

Jadyn Davis is the future and while a 2025 quarterback is important, the first priority is making sure the commitment of Davis, becomes a signing in December.
