Brad Robbins helps Jim Harbaugh reach NFL draft milestone
Michigan football punter Brad Robbins was selected in the 2023 NFL draft, marking a key milestone for the Wolverines under Jim Harbaugh
If anyone is wondering why Michigan football is finding so much success on the recruiting trail, the success in the NFL draft is just one reason.
Following the selection of punter Brad Robbins on Saturday by the Bengals, the Michigan football team has had seven players selected and the draft isn’t even over.
What’s significant about Robbins is that he’s a punter for one, which tells you how good he is just to get drafted. It’s also the second special teamer drafted from the Wolverines as Jake Moody was selected in the third round by the 49ers on Friday at the end of the third round.
Robbins had a bit of a down season in 2022, but he was elite in 2021 and has the ability to be a real weapon. Not only does he have a strong leg, but he was also really good about pinning teams deep and when needed, flipping field position.
The Bengals are likely betting that Robbins’ true form is what we saw in 2021 and if that’s the player they get, he will absolutely be worth the sixth-round pick.
Brad Robbins makes history for Jim Harbaugh, Michigan football
Robbins was the first punter selected during the Jim Harbaugh era and that’s significant because with Moody and Robbins each being selected, Michigan football has now had at least one player at each position drafted with Harbaugh as the head coach.
It’s been an impressive run and shows just how good the Wolverines are in all phases of the game. Jay Harbaugh certainly deserves credit too.
People have always suggested nepotism was involved in him being hired but it couldn’t be further from the truth. Jay Harbaugh is one of the most valuable assistants on the staff and like his uncle John Harbaugh, he’s an elite special teams coach.
It’s only a matter of time before he becomes a head coach himself. For now, he should be proud and his dad should be too because the Wolverines have reached another NFL draft milestone.
And another really talented Michigan football player (Robbins) found a really good home with the Bengals, who have now drafted three Wolverines in the past two seasons.
