Reacting as Michigan football had two players selected in the second round of the NFL draft, Luke Schoonmaker and DJ Turner.

Michigan football continues to churn out NFL draft selections and two Wolverines have come off the board on Friday in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft.

The Dallas Cowboys selected Mazi Smith in the first round of the NFL draft on Thursday, which made it five years in a row that a Michigan football player has gone round one.

Dallas then took the second Michigan football player in the draft as the tight-end needy Cowboys selected Luke Schoonmaker with the 58th overall pick. The Bengals followed that up by selecting Turner with the 60th overall pick, making it three Wolverines in the first two rounds.

Here are some thoughts on Michigan football’s second-round draft picks.

Analyzing Michigan football round two draft picks

DJ Turner was getting some buzz as a potential first-round pick leading into the weekend, so it was good to see him come off the board to the Bengals, where he will be playing on the same team as former Michigan football standout Daxton Hill.

Interestingly enough, Schoonmaker is also reuniting with a former teammate as Schoonmaker will be joining Mazi Smith in Dallas.

I love both picks. Dallas needed a tight end and Schoonmaker is one of the most underrated in the draft. He’s got great hands and he’s a willing blocker. He’s 6-foot-6 and reminds me of Jason Witten a little, a former Dallas great in just how complete he is.

As far as Turner, I wouldn’t have blinked if my team had drafted him in round one. He’s good in zone and man coverage, plus he’s not afraid to tackle. His ball skills could improve a little, but he put together two really good seasons for Michigan football and has starter potential.
