How many Michigan football players will go in 2024 NFL draft?
The 2024 NFL draft is set to start on Thursday night and we ask, how many Michigan football players will get selected this year in all seven rounds?
It’s NFL draft time and for Michigan football fans, it usually means watching a lot of Wolverines getting picked over the three-day annual selection meeting.
The first round is going to be interesting. A Michigan football player could get selected as DJ Turner and Mazi Smith have both been mocked in that range. I wouldn’t be surprised if both players were picked or if neither was.
That’s the nature of the draft and neither is going to be a top-10 pick. However, I think a number of Wolverines are going to hear their names called before the end of day two which includes Smith and Turner, even in the worst scenario.
Another is Luke Schoonmaker. I just don’t see him lasting past the third round. This tight-end class is deep and his RAS (relative athletic score) is really good. I feel like he’s exactly what the Packers need and if they don’t take a tight end in the first round, he’s a name to watch.
The Wolverine.com ran a mock draft with the Pro Football Focus Mock Draft machine and the Wolverines wound up having eight players drafted. Do you think that will be the number?
How many Michigan football players will be drafted?
Olu Oluwatimi is being projected on day three and it seems like his stock is sort of dropping. I’m not sure why. I think he’ll be a solid player in the NFL and any team in need of a center, would do well to land him near the end of the third round or in the fourth.
Ryan Hayes, Ronnie Bell, Jake Moody, and Mike Morris should all be drafted at some point, even if it comes on day three. That would be eight players total. The final number could hinge on Moody but I expect some NFL to pick him.
An elite kicker is a valuable weapon and signing one on the free agent market can be expensive. With the draft, you could take a guy like Moody and feel good about the kicking spot over the next four years plus pay a cheaper price.
I’m hoping for at least one first-rounder on Thursday night, but when it’s all said and done, having another eight guys get drafted sounds about right.
