In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, Michigan football will host Texas in 2024, the Wolverines have the No. 1 recruiting class, and more.

It felt like Tuesday was going to be a day of multiple commitments for the Michigan Wolverines and that wound up being true.

Elite, in-state tight end Brady Prieskorn, ranked second in the state of Michigan for the 2024 class and 56th overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, pledged to Michigan football along with four-star defensive lineman Jerod Smith.

Smith is ranked in the top 300 and was recently considered a Notre Dame lean. His brother is also a four-star EDGE with Michigan football in his top six.

Regardless, with the two commitments on Tuesday, the Michigan Wolverines took over the top spot in the 2024 recruiting class according to the 247 sports team rankings.

It’s crazy to think how far Michigan football has come on the recruiting trail in the past year, but this class now has 14 commitments, and 11 are four-star recruits. Three are ranked in the top 100 and the Wolverines aren’t even close to being done.

Michigan football is the crystal ball leader for eight other recruits in the 2024 class and more fireworks should be coming this week with offensive lineman Jake Guarnera.

Michigan Wolverines football game vs Texas will take place in 2024

The Texas Longhorns are coming to Ann Arbor according to an announcement by the Michigan football program on Tuesday, the Wolverines will host the Horns in a non-conference game in Ann Arbor during the 2024 season.

That’s exciting for a couple of reasons. For one, Texas and Michigan haven’t played since the Rose Bowl back in 2005. Michigan football has also gotten plenty of criticism this past season and also about their 2023 non-conference schedule.

It has been pretty easy but the Michigan Wolverines have also played a power-5 non-conference opponent almost every single year prior to 2022 and 2023.

One thing that popped into my mind is that Michigan football fans will likely see one of the first starts of Arch Manning and at least one of his first important starts.

It’s not expected that Manning will unseat Ewers in 2023, but by 2024, he should be the starter, and if J.J. McCarthy is still around, we could have a QB battle for the ages.

Michigan basketball opponents announced

There was also some scheduling news on the basketball front as the Michigan Wolverines found out who their Big Ten opponents will be and where they will play.

The Big Ten hasn’t released the actual schedule, we don’t know dates or anything. But we do know that Michigan basketball will play Michigan State and Ohio State twice, as well as Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, Rutgers, and Purdue.
