It was a busy news day on Monday for the Michigan Wolverines as there was a flurry of transfers for Michigan football and basketball, plus much more.

The Michigan Wolverines haven’t suffered many losses via the transfer portal but on Monday, three Michigan football players entered the portal.

A.J. Henning was the first one that announced it on social media. The wide receiver and kick returner will be missed. He scored the first touchdown against Ohio State in 2021 and returned a punt and kick back for a touchdown during this Michigan football career.

R.J. Moten and Nikhai Hill-Green also entered the transfer portal on Monday, leaving the Michigan football program. Both players did start at one time for the Wolverines.

Yet, Moten was essentially the third safety last season. Quentin Johnson has been making a move, plus Keon Sabb and Zeke Berry. Those guys need to play so I think this makes sense for both sides.

Moten is good enough to start though and he’ll find a place soon enough. The same can be said about Hill-Green. Injuries cost him a lot of his 2022 season and then he sort of got lost in the shuffle.

Michael Barrett returned for a sixth season and then the Michigan Wolverines added Ernest Hausmann in the transfer portal which only added more numbers to a crowded room that also features up-and-coming sophomores Jimmy Rolder and Micah Pollard.

The Wolverines lost three quality players to the portal. But there are only so many spots. Each of these guys wanted a shot at a bigger role and you can’t blame them. All three guys played their part in Michigan winning two Big Ten titles, so thank you, sincerely, and good luck.

Are two commitments coming for Michigan football?

In terms of recruiting news for the Michigan Wolverines, it should be a very good day. Brady Prieskorn announced that he will be making his commitment known on Tuesday afternoon.

That’s huge for Michigan football because Preiskorn is the No. 2 ranked recruit in the state of Michigan and 56th overall. The 6-foot-6, 225-pounder is going to be the next elite tight end for the Wolverines, and landing his commitment will be massive.

Four-star defensive lineman Jerod Smith is also expected to announce his commitment on Tuesday and all the crystal ball projections are pointing to the Michigan Wolverines.

Smith has a brother that’s a four-star EDGE in 2024 too. Michigan just made the top six and if Jerod commits to U-M, the Wolverines should have a good shot with Jacob Smith as well.

A Michigan basketball transfer

The Michigan Wolverines also had a transfer on the basketball court. Gregg Glenn has left the program, giving Michigan two open spots (assuming the waiver is granted for Jaelin Llewellyn).

Glenn signed as part of the 2022 class and was ranked as a top-100 recruit at one time. However, he was buried on the depth chart and likely wasn’t going to see much time next season.

It will be interesting to see who his suitors are. But with his size, athleticism, and pedigree, I’m sure that Glenn will find a spot where he has a better chance to contribute in 2023-24.

Now, the Wolverines just need to figure out what to do with their two spots. They need another reliable scorer and another body in the frontcourt.

I’d expect some additions soon, especially since the Wolverines aren’t waiting on the potential return of any NBA draft prospects, and all in all, this departure is a net positive.
