Michigan football is trending in a very positive direction with another four-star recruit in the 2024 class, Jerod Smith.

The Wolverines picked up a new expert projection on Wednesday to land the commitment of a four-star defender in the 2024 class. One day later, Michigan football has done the same thing.

Back on Jan. 10, Michigan football extended scholarship offers to Jerod Smith and Jacob Smith, two brothers and two of the best players in the state of Connecticut for the 2024 class.

At one point, it seemed like both were Notre Dame leans. Yet, Michigan football cracked the top 10 and now, the Wolverines have picked up two expert projections for Jerod Smith, the 6-foot-2, 255-pound defensive lineman ranked No. 316 overall in 2024 via the On3 industry rankings.

You might be wondering about his brother Jacob Smith, who is ranked in the top 300 according to the On3 Industry rankings and also has a Michigan offer. Just like Jerod, he was once thought to be a Notre Dame lean, but Nebraska has started to make a strong push.

Michigan football takes over as the new favorite for Jerod Smith

Both could still be in the cards, especially if they are able to get Jacob Smith on campus for an official visit too.

Jerod Smith has an impressive offer list and has taken multiple visits to Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State, and Kentucky in the last year. He also took a visit to Michigan football at the end of March, along with another trip to Notre Dame.

That’s why the Irish were the leader according to the On3 prediciton machine. However, you have to go with the Michigan football recruiting experts — EJ Holland and Zach Libby — for The Wolverine who each projected the blue-chipper to land with the Wolverines.

It doesn’t mean that a commitment is coming right away or anything. Smith might take official visits before making a final decision or he could do what Blake Frazier did and just decide it’s time to end things and commit.

Either way, the Wolverines are in a good spot here and they are now trending with a number of recruits in the 2024 class, which is shaping up to be one of Jim Harbaugh’s best.
