Michigan football landed the commitment of five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis and he’s going to enroll early which is huge for the Wolverines.

Things have been going really well for Michigan football in the 2024 recruiting class and the Wolverines added another blue-chip commitment on Sunday when, a former legacy, Blake Frazier pledged to U-M.

Michigan football is currently ranked third in the 2024 recruiting class according to the team rankings from 247 Sports. More importantly, the Wolverines have 12 total commitments already and nine of them are blue-chip prospects (4-star rating or higher) and that’s nearly equal to the haul the Wolverines had in 2023.

This class certainly doesn’t look like it’s going to be ranked outside the top 10 and there’s a shot it could even be a top-five class. Regardless of the final rankings, the crown jewel is Jadyn Davis, who committed last month.

That was the end of a long recruitment for the Wolverines. Michigan football fans had to watch a couple of talented in-state quarterbacks with ties to the program — Dante Moore and CJ Carr — commit to other programs while the Wolverines were focused on Davis.

At times, it seemed like it might not work out, but in the end, Michigan football locked up his commitment this spring in part due to new quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell.

It probably also didn’t hurt that Jim Harbaugh didn’t leave for the NFL.

Jadyn Davis will enroll early

In another bit of good news with the five-star QB from North Carolina, Josh Henschke of Rivals reported that Davis is going to enroll early for the 2024 season.

Obviously, that’s huge for Michigan football. It helps solidify his commitment a little (with enrollment plans) and also would give him a better chance to try and compete for the starting job if J.J. McCarthy winds up going to the NFL after this season.

I have always thought McCarthy would wind up leaving after his junior season. He’s not as highly touted now but I think he will be and Michigan needs to have a plan in place for the 2024 season, which will include Davis battling it out against Davis Warren.

That’s not a bad place to be in terms of quarterbacks and getting a talent like Davis on campus as early as possible is always a good idea.
