The transfer portal window is open for the spring and it’s worth asking if Michigan football has any needs it should address.

Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh feels pretty good about the 2023 Wolverines. He has said that up through the spring, he thinks it’s his best team at U-M.

Harbaugh qualified that statement by saying it was just the spring and there wasn’t a guarantee of anything. But when you look at this Michigan football team heading into the 2023 season, there are plenty of reasons to feel good.

Former national champion running back, Chris Howard, who was on the 1997 team, certainly likes what he has seen from the Wolverines and thinks this Michigan team should beat Ohio State again.

Does Michigan football have any transfer portal needs?

We’ll have to wait till November to see that happen but looking up and down the roster, the Wolverines are pretty loaded and they don’t have many needs to fill right now.

On the offensive side of the ball, I don’t think Michigan has a need at any particular position. Michigan football has depth and talent at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, and offensive line.

The defense might have a couple more questions but all in all, the Wolverines look every bit as deep and talented on defense as they were a season ago.

Michigan has added some key players too in linebacker Ernest Hausmann, as well as EDGE Josaiah Stewart. The defensive line is stacked, especially with Stewart to aid the pass rush.

The only position I’m worried about at all is cornerback. Amorion Walker, I think, will be a good player, but didn’t have the best spring game. Ja’Den McBurrows, Myles Pollard, Jyaire Hill, and others are in the mix.

Walker has all the talent in the world — he just needs more seasoning. The same can probably be said about all of those guys but if a surefire starter becomes available in the transfer portal and Michigan football has room, it should do it.

Outside of that, I doubt Michigan adds much. The Wolverines need to cut numbers and I’d expect to see more subtractions than additions over the next two weeks.
