Former Michigan Football Running Back Chris Howard Talks About 2023 Wolverines
By Chad Fisher
The state of Michigan football is strong
Howard would like to see a few changes offensively, but thinks the overall state of the Michigan football program couldn’t be any better right now, “I don’t think we could’ve asked to have a better situation than we’re in right now.”
Although Michigan didn’t vault to the top of the Big Ten Conference immediately after Harbaugh took over Howard said he’s glad Michigan gave Harbaugh time to turn things around.
“It takes time. If you give a coach time success will come. I think that’s going to keep on happening as long as we keep supporting Harbaugh and his staff and his players. Right now Big Ten Championships are the norm. That’s kind of what we expect. I think they’ll continue to play for Big Ten Championships. I think they’ll continue to get into the College Football Playoff, but there’s definitely gonna have to be some sort of shift where we’re getting those NFL-ready quality players from day one. It’s a mismatch game at the end of the day. Are your players better than my players? We have to continue to recruit better.”
Howard thinks the program is in a great spot right now and that the 2023 Michigan football season will look similar to last year. So, what’s his prediction for the upcoming Wolverine season?
“I think it’s gonna play out just the way it did last year,” Howard said. “I think they’re gonna be undefeated going into the Ohio State game. And I think they have a great chance of making it 3-0 (in the last three years against the Buckeyes) and probably sending Ryan Day right on out the door next to (former Ohio State coach John) Cooper.”
That is music to the ears of Michigan football fans.
