Michigan Wolverines news: Latest on transfer portal, a walk-off for softball, and more
In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, we look at the latest transfer portal news for Michigan basketball, a walk-off home run, and more.
One of the big questions Michigan basketball fans have been asking since the recent flurry of transfer portal moves is — are the Wolverines done?
All signs are pointing to no. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Michigan basketball added two players in the transfer portal before things are all said and done.
It’s true that the Michigan Wolverines don’t technically have any scholarships available right now. However, Michigan basketball is still in the mix for guys like Hunter Sallis, AJ Storr, Shawn Phillips, Yohan Traore, and there have been rumblings about former Nevada center Will Baker.
We don’t know if Joey Baker is going to return and if his waiver will be approved for one. There have also been rumblings about 2023 signee Papa Kante possibly not joining the program, so right there is the potential for two scholarship openings.
Terrance Williams and Greg Glenn are two guys I could see in the portal too. Williams, in my opinion, is going to have a hard time finding minutes next season. When he’s making 3s, he can be a valuable piece, but I wonder if it would be better for him to move on.
I certainly think Tray Jackson could and should start over Williams. I’d like to see another player in the mix at the power-forward spot or center. I’d also love to see another dude at the three, especially one with 3-point capability.
Another shooter is especially needed if Baker can’t return and you never know when it comes to the NCAA and waivers. At any rate, two names you can cross off the list for the Michigan Wolverines are former Pitt big man John Hugley. The Wolverines aren’t in contact anymore.
Michigan basketball also failed to make the top five in the race for former Virginia center Kadin Shedrick. There is still a chance that Hunter Dickinson could return and regardless, the Michigan Wolverines have the No. 2 transfer portal haul right now via 247 Sports.
Michigan Wolverines walk-off in softball, drop series in baseball
The Michigan Wolverines dropped the first game of their three-game set against Illinois this weekend but rallied to win on Saturday and Sunday to win it two games to one.
On Sunday, Michigan won in dramatic fashion as Keke Tholl blasted a double off the wall with the two runners on to give the Wolverines a win in walk-off fashion by a score of 2-1. Michigan is 19-15 overall and 9-5 in the Big Ten. U-M will play Michigan State on Wednesday.
It was a rough end to the weekend series against Nebraska for the Michigan Wolverines baseball team. The Huskers got a two-run home run in extra innings to win 3-1 in game two and on Sunday, Nebraska took home the series win with an 11-3 victory.
Michigan is now 17-14 overall and 6-3 in the Big Ten. A non-conference game awaits on Tuesday against Butler before a three-game set at Rutgers this weekend.
