The Michigan Wolverines will take place in the Frozen Four on Thursday night, plus more Michigan basketball activity in the transfer portal, and more.

When it comes to the transfer portal, things seem to be changing by the minute. Michigan basketball is pushing for former North Carolina guard Caleb Love, as well as a number of other targets.

We broke down Love earlier this week and how he would fit for Michigan basketball. The Michigan Wolverines are slated to lose their top three scorers from last season and one thing Love has proven he can do is put the ball in the basket.

Missouri is a strong contender too, especially since he’s from the state of Missouri. The On3 prediction machine gives the Tigers a slight edge, but it’s close to 50/50.

More news came out on Wednesday night about Michigan basketball transfer portal pursuits as the Wolverines have made contact with former five-star target Yohan Traore.

Traore was a former Michigan basketball target and wound up signing with Auburn in the 2022 class as the No. 24 overall prospect. He’s 6-foot-10 and could play power forward or center.

Michigan needs to upgrade the power forward position and it could also use an athletic big like Traore who could provide some rim protection to go along with his athletic upside.

AJ Storr out of St. John’s is another name to know for Michigan basketball fans. He’s going to be a sophomore next season and the 6-foot-6 guard averaged over eight points a game for St. John’s while shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc and making 1.2 triples per game.

It’s clear that Michigan is looking for a guard/wing to come in and start next season. Storrs would be a nice addition if the Wolverines aren’t able to get Love.

Ideally, in my opinion, Michigan basketball would add a player like Love or Storrs and then a competent big ready to start at the four next season. I don’t know if that’s Traore but he, like Nimari Burnett, at least offers some upside.

Hunter Dickinson update

It was reported earlier this week that Dickinson was strongly considering Maryland, as well as even a return to the Michigan basketball team.

I said then that seemed unlikely, although you never know in the transfer portal, but on Wednesday, the 7-foot-1 center met with Kentucky head coach John Calipari.

Kentucky seems like a great fit for Dickinson. The Wildcats need a big guy and they are sure to put together a very competitive NIL deal. Maryland and Kentucky both make sense, but personally, I’d rather Dickinson not play in the Big Ten next season.

Michigan Wolverines set for Frozen Four

It’s a big night for the Michigan hockey team as the Wolverines will take on Quinnipiac tonight at 8:30 PM EST in the Frozen Four.

Michigan hockey has advanced to the Frozen Four for the second straight season and is looking for redemption after a semifinal loss to Denver last season.

Quinnipiac is the No. 3 ranked team in college hockey and has one of the top defenses in the nation. The Michigan Wolverines are the nation’s leader in goals scored and boast a number of first-round picks.

Adam Faintilli is the college hockey leader in goals scored and the offensive firepower might start with him, but it doesn’t end there. Goalie Erik Portillo has been spectacular too in the postseason run for the Michigan Wolverines, who have won six straight games.

Michigan hockey isn’t just happy to be in Tampa for the Frozen Four either — the Wolverines are aiming to win their 10th national title according to head coach Brandon Naurato:

"“We’re not happy just to be there. We want to win it. Even the group last year — because of COVID and then the year before COVID — they didn’t have the opportunity to get those experiences, so it was all new. We have 12 freshmen, but I think a lot of those guys are saying the right things. It’s not some event or some party. It’s the same thing we’ve been doing all year — just focus on the game and what we can control.  I keep saying this. It sounds so cliché, but you have to.”"

The Michigan hockey team starts its quest tonight at 8:30 PM EST on ESPN2.
