Michigan Football: Jadyn Davis finally chooses Wolverines
By Nick Popio
Arguably the most anticipated commitment for Jim Harbaugh and Michigan football fans alike, highly coveted quarterback Jadyn Davis has officially committed to play for the maize and blue in 2024.
With current signal caller J.J. McCarthy presumably entering his final season in Ann Arbor, the Wolverines have scoured the country to find its next elite quarterback to continue their recent success. They found that young man in North Carolina. Jadyn Davis is the prized recruit of the 2024 class and he is the next chosen one at the most important spot on the field.
The effects of this pledge cannot be measured until he suits up, but it’s a humongous win for Michigan football because the Wolverines beat out the SEC, ACC, and a few schools in the Big Ten to obtain him.
Davis is rated very similarly to McCarthy when he made the leap from high school to college. The transition between the two will be different from the Cade McNamara to McCarthy transition unless McCarthy stays for his senior campaign.
Repeating the 2021 situation where McNamara started and McCarthy was sprinkled in is clearly the way to go. If McCarthy departs, then Michigan could go in one of three ways- 1. start Davis from day one, 2. start Alex Orji or another backup option, or 3. find someone in the transfer portal to hold the job until Davis is ready to rock.
As for Davis, he throws a really pretty ball. During his junior season, he averaged a seven to one touchdown to interception ratio. He doesn’t run it very much because of his rare arm talent and that’s the kind of offense Providence Day runs.
Putting up video game numbers at Michigan football is unheard of at the quarterback position and Davis will have outlandish expectations as soon as he puts on the winged helmet thanks to a rabid fanbase.
With backs like Jordan Marshall and possibly Taylor Tatum to flank him though, Davis won’t have to carry the offense just like McCarthy doesn’t. Although having a gunslinger like Davis in the fold would be an embarrassment of riches not to let him go out there and rip it. Davis has what it takes to be the first Heisman winner at quarterback in Michigan’s prolific history.
Davis will likely have one of the foremost offensive lines in college football to protect him too. Michigan has landed two prospects so far and at least three more are being crystal balled to the Wolverines.
The remainder of the 2024 class has a chance to be off-the-charts special. The on-field success is paying dividends as it should be when you win the Big Ten and reach the playoffs.
A top-five overall class is not out of the realm of possibility with Michigan directly in the mix for the cream of the crop.
