Center John Hugley IV

Another transfer portal target that Michigan basketball has already contacted is former Pittsburgh center John Hugley who missed a bunch of games due to injury this season and announced his intention to transfer before the regular season even ended.

Hugley played in just eight games this past season but had 31 starts in the 2021-22 season for Pitt and averaged 14.8 points per game as well as 7.9 rebounds.

The 6-foot-9, 240-pounder could play the four or the five for the Wolverines. He doesn’t shoot many 3-pointers but is a 70 percent shooter at the free-throw line. He was also pretty good in the post and made 51.6 percent on 2-pointers in his sophomore season.

Hugley could be a nice option to start at center or power forward. If Dickinson left, he could be the No. 1 low-post threat starting alongside Reed. Or, he could add another solid big as part of a three-man rotation next season.

Reed is going to play more minutes next year and a three-big rotation of Dickinson, Reed, and Hugley would be damn good. There would be enough minutes for those guys but not many for anyone else.

There also would be a ton of perimeter shooting. Still, Juwan has shown he’s not afraid to play two-big lineups, especially if they can both score.
