It was a great night for the Michigan hockey team, as well as for Mason Parris who captured an individual national championship in wrestling.

It shouldn’t really come as a surprise that Mason Parris finished his season undefeated and his Michigan wrestling career as a national champion.

The Michigan Wolverines standout is now a four-time All-American and a two-time finalist. He beat the second-ranked wrestler Greg Kerkvliet from Penn State for the third time this season. The second time was recently at the Big Ten championships.

Parris scored a first-period takedown and then won on riding time to earn a 5-1 victory which made the two-time finalist a national champion.

Parris didn’t lose a single match this season for the Michigan Wolverines in the heavyweight division and it was great to see him cap off his career with a national championship win. The Wolverines took sixth as a team with a total of 58.5 points overall.

Michigan Wolverines win Big Ten hockey championship

It was a banner night for the Wolverines who also captured a second consecutive Big Ten hockey championship with a 4-3 win over No. 1 Minnesota on Saturday night on the road.

The Wolverines did the exact same thing last season to the Gophers on their way to earning a trip to the Frozen Four.

Michigan hockey was tied 2-2 heading into the third period before Minnesota was able to grab a 3-2 lead early in the final stanza. Seamus Casey found the back of the net for the Wolverines with just over 14 minutes left in the game.

Then, Dylan Duke was able to score on a rebound with 8:14 left in the game, giving the Michigan Wolverines a 4-3 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

It was Michigan’s fourth straight win in the Big Ten tournament this season and gives the Wolverines their second straight Big Ten title. Michigan was ranked fourth in the country going in and should get a No. 1 seed heading into the NCAA tournament.
