The wide receivers

The final group I’ll look at is the wide receiver group. There haven’t been many surprises in this group, but there has been some news. Cornelius Johnson has continued his improvement and is looking like a star. He’s becoming a better leader and could be in the running to be a captain.

Roman Wilson has put on some good weight while also retaining his game-breaking speed. That weight could be huge for Wilson, as he’s struggled to get separation at times and win off the line. With some extra muscle, he could be even more dangerous. I’m extremely excited to see how Wilson performs in 2023.

Frederick Moore and Semaj Morgan have been turning heads during spring ball. Both were three stars, and it appears that both feel like they have something to prove. In the video that the team posted on Twitter, Morgan can be seen catching an over-the-shoulder touchdown. Moore, who I have said was extremely underrated in the recruiting process, is showing that his football speed and route running are very good.

While I don’t expect the freshmen to play very significant roles this season, it’s definitely very promising to hear that they’re making an impact early.

The final two players I’m sure everyone is interested in are Tyler Morris and Darrius Clemons. It somewhat disappoints me to say that there hasn’t been a ton of buzz about either of them, especially Clemons.

Tyler Morris is now repping #8, and man, he looks just like Ronnie Bell. Morris did see the field during some big moments last season, including a huge first-down catch against Rutgers. Morris looks to be a weapon out of the slot, and I’m expecting him to be a starter eventually.

Something worth noting is that Morris and McCarthy were teammates at Nazareth Academy. The two likely already have chemistry, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see McCarthy go to his former high school teammate a lot.

Lastly, Clemons. If you’ve followed my writing, you know I have been and I continue to be very high on Darrius Clemons. I feel like this kid can be a dominant WR. He’s got all the tools as a 6’3 214 lb receiver with speed. If you remember his catch in last year’s spring game, you’d understand why there is so much hype around him.

It has been reported that Clemons is progressing well and that he is doing much better now than he was at the beginning of practices, but it’s just not the news many fans were hoping for. While it seems the Clemons hype will have to slow down for now, this kid will have the chance to turn some heads over the next few months.

Conclusion

That concludes this Spring ball analysis. While Spring is typically the time for unnecessary hype, this year feels kind of different. The Wolverines know that they want to win a national championship this year, and all indications are that they’re doing everything they need to in order to reach that goal.

It’ll be very interesting to see how these headlines continue to develop over the coming weeks and to see what new headlines come out.
