The cornerback situation

I want to touch on this briefly. We know that Will Johnson, who I believe could be an All-American this season, is going to start. The question during spring ball has been who is going to start opposite of him.

Right now, the answer seems to be converted WR Amorion Walker. He played the position in high school and was recruited by a lot of teams as a CB. Athletically, Walker is off the charts. He was clocked at 6.10 while doing a 3-cone drill. That would be the fastest time in NFL combine history. He’s also 6’3 and very lanky.

Basically, he has the physical gifts to be absolutely dominant in both college and the NFL. The question has been how quickly he could adjust to and learn the cornerback position. There hasn’t been a ton that has come out about how Walker is doing, but it has been suggested that he is currently leading at the position.

The Wolverines are expected to explore the transfer portal for a cornerback when it reopens in May, but right now Walker looks like the favorite to start opposite of Will Johnson. I don’t even know if it’s possible for him to live up to some of the hype that’s been thrown his way, but man, you’ve gotta love having a kid with so much potential…
