Michigan Wolverines news: No. 1 recruit to visit, Jesse Minter staying, and more
In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, we cover some positive updates for Michigan football, DC Jesse Minter, and more.
Recently, Michigan football fans got a little panicked as it was reported that Jesse Minter, the Wolverines’ defensive coordinator, interviewed with the Eagles.
Minter was spectacular for the Michigan Wolverines last season as he took over for Mike Macdonald, who returned to the NFL after just one season. Michigan football fans were obviously concerned about it happening again, but there is no need to worry.
It looks like Minter will be back running the Michigan football defense once again in 2023 as Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the Eagles are poised to hire Sean Desai. That’s a good thing and with all the talent coming back, the defense should be elite once again.
No. 1 2024 recruit to visit Michigan Football
On3.com recently updated its recruiting rankings and Michigan Wolverines EDGE target Dylan Stewart is now the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2024 class. Stewart is out of Washington, D.C., and is 6-foot-5, 235 pounds.
He’s still ranked No. 24 overall in the On3 consensus rankings for the 2024 class, but he’s ranked as the No. 1 EDGE and the Michigan Wolverines have had plenty of success developing edge rushers over the years.
Michigan also has a solid presence in the DMV area. It didn’t get them Nyckoles Harbor, but according to EJ Holland of The Wolverine, Stewart will visit Michigan this spring.
South Carolina has hosted him for five visits and is the current leader according to the On3 prediciton machine.
Michigan Wolverines transfer rated top 10 linebacker
Ernest Hausmann was a huge addition for Michigan football in the transfer portal and after just one season at Nebraska, the former three-star recruit is ranked as one of the top 10 linebackers in college football according to On3.

It’s interesting because the depth chart at linebacker is loaded. Everyone is back from last season including Michael Barrett and Junior Colson.
Obviously, Hausmann isn’t going to be stuck on the sidelines and beyond that, other promising players like Nikahi Hill-Green and Jimmy Rolder still deserve snaps too.
It’s a good problem to have and it appears that all of a sudden, linebacker is another strength of the Michigan Wolverines on defense.
Michigan baseball was defeated by UC Irvine
The Wolverines were back on the diamond on Tuesday but it wasn’t a day Michigan baseball will want to remember after they were beaten by UC Irvine 15-3.
UC Irvine had a seven-run inning, as well as a six-run inning as Michigan used a total of five pitchers. Gabe Sotres had two hits in the loss for the Wolverines. Greg Pace Jr., who was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, also had a triple and drove in two runs.
Michigan will stay in California on Wednesday and will take on 17th-ranked UCLA at 5 PM PST. The Wolverines are now 4-3 on the season under new head coach Tracy Smith.
