Make shots

Basketball can be a complicated game but at the same time it isn’t. You need to make shots to win games and with Dickinson likely getting doubled for much of the night, there should be plenty of open looks available for Michigan basketball shooters.

If Jett Howard is able to play, that will be huge for obvious reasons. He’s a projected first round pick and one of the best 3-point shooters in the country. He’s also got a mid-range game which could be important.

Kobe Bufkin can score at all three levels and he’ll need to keep knocking down shots, as will Joey Baker. Not everyone needs to go off, but Michigan is going to have to hit perimeter shots to win this game, there is no way around it.

Michigan basketball vs Rutgers prediction

Down two starters and two of their best defenders, I have a hard time seeing Rutgers doing enough on the defensive end to win.

Hunter Dickinson could have an off night and the Wolverines have been inconsistent shooting the ball this season, but I really don’t see Rutgers exploding for a big night offensively.

That masks probably the biggest weakness of this Michigan team and with a weakened defense due to injuries, I’m not buying Rutgers as six-point favorite — I see Michigan baskeball winning this game outright 72-65.
