3 things we learned from Michigan Basketball loss to Wisconsin
A very narrow path
If Michigan basketball had won on Saturday and Tuesday, the Wolverines would probably be projected in the field at this point, even at 16-10.
Despite the rough start to conference play and the really bad loss to Central Michigan, the Wolverines were right where they needed to be. They just needed to beat some quality teams and haven’t been able to play with any sort of consistency.
At times, Michigan looks like a top-20 team. Other times, Michigan looks like it doesn’t even belong in the NIT. However, it’s more than likely headed there.
Michigan still needs to win some games too because there are five games left and U-M needs two or three to at least make the NIT, which generally has a pretty solid field nowadays.
If the Wolverines won out, they could probably still earn an at-large berth but the two home games left are Wisconsin and Michigan State, while the road trips are against Illinois, Rutgers, and Indiana.
Plus, Michigan would then need to win at least one or two in the Big Ten tournament. The other path is actually winning the Big Ten tournament. The Wolverines have done it before.
Either way, it would take a longer winning streak than this team has had all season against Big Ten opponents, so it seems like a long shot.
