Michigan Wolverines news: New analyst hires for Michigan football and more
Michigan football announced new analyst hires, Amorion Walker does something insane and more in our Michigan Wolverines news roundup.
It’s been a busy week for Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh in terms of managing his coaching staff. It was reported earlier this week that Chris Partridge is expected to return to the Wolverines and also this week, U-M has announced two new analyst hires.
One is Nick Gilbert. He’s spent the last two seasons working at Colorado and was an offensive lineman at the University of Idaho.
Here’s more on Gilbert, who will assist with the offensive line, among other things for the Michigan football program, from the Wolverines’ release:
"“Gilbert worked directly with former Michigan analyst Kyle DeVan as a quality control specialist with the offense in Boulder, assisting specifically with the offensive line. Prior to joining the Colorado staff, Gilbert was the offensive line coach at the University of Idaho in 2021. The Vandals had a solid run game under Gilbert’s direction, averaging 171 yards per game to rank 31st in FBS. They also set a school record with seven rushing touchdowns in a game.”"
It wasn’t the only offensive analyst announced by Michigan football recently. The Wolverines needed to replace Kirk Campbell who was promoted to quarterbacks coach.
The Michigan Wolverines have done just that by hiring Josh Sinagoga from Youngstown State. It’s a smart move for a couple of reasons. For one, he’s worked with quarterbacks and wide receivers. He was also the recruiting coordinator, which should help the Wolverines’ efforts in Ohio.
More Michigan Wolverines news: Amorion Walker is a freak
Michigan football fans are excited about the future of Amorion Walker and they should be. The 6-foot-3 wide receiver/defensive back showed why as a video was released of him running the 3-done drill in 6.10 which would be the fastest time in the history of the NFL scouting combine.
There’s a reason Walker saw time at both receiver and defensive back last season. The former three-star recruit was flipped away from Notre Dame on signing day in 2022 and as a Michigan Wolverines fan, I’m feeling pretty good about that.
Former Michigan football players get a cease and desist letter
You may have heard or seen the podcast, ‘Bussin with the Boys” which features Michigan Wolverines standout Taylor Lewan, as well as former Nebraska player Will Compton.
Lewan was a great Michigan football player but apparently, is in a disagreement with the University over the use of a logo that’s trademarked by the school on hats and t-shirts. Lewan doesn’t blame Harbaugh, but talked about it in a short video, and here’s part of what he said:
"“And I don’t think it’s Harbaugh. I think it’s the people at the University of Michigan; not the football side. Hopefully, we can work something out because, boys, I’ll be honest: I’m hurt. I’m hurt and I wish there was something we could just do.”"
Surely, Harbaugh has bigger fish to fry. But when it comes to trademarks and logos, things can get messy but hopefully, there’s a resolution that makes both sides happy.
