Michigan Wolverines news: A new Michigan football commitment, a new assistant coach and more
Michigan football landed a new commitment and is expected to hire a new assistant. We cover that and more in our Michigan Wolverines news roundup.
On Monday morning, some interesting recruiting news popped up regarding Michigan football as Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports reported a new commitment in 2024 from Mason Ludwig.
Ludwig is an unranked recruit according to 247 sports, however, the 6-foot-3, 202-pound linebacker out of Pennsylvania told Wiltfong he has been committed to Michigan football since November and just announced his commitment publicly on Monday.
There is a connection between Ludwig and strength coach Ben Herbert. However, it’s a little concerning that Ludwig doesn’t have any other offers. It makes you wonder if he will be a preferred walk-on or on scholarship.
Either way, I trust Jim Harbaugh. He’s taken low-ranked kids before and it has worked out. If he sees something in the kid, then why not? But, it still seems up in the air if he will be coming to the Michigan Wolverines on a scholarship or not.
Michigan Wolverines expected to hire a new assistant coach
We have talked about Chris Partridge a couple of times in the past few days and it seems like the former Michigan football assistant is returning.
The Michigan Wolverines haven’t officially announced the move but it was reported by On3.com on Monday that he was expected to join the staff.
Of course, this means one of the on-field assistants will be moving on. My guess is George Helow, although I have nothing solid to back that up. Just a hunch.
Partridge would be a great replacement. I would even call him an upgrade based on what he brought Michigan football on the recruiting trail in the past. He was also a co-DC at Ole Miss and just interviewed to be Miami’s DC.
Michigan Wolverines to play in the Palestra?
Another cool bit of news, Michigan basketball is working with Penn State to schedule a neutral site conference game at the famed Palestra in Philadelphia next season.
It would be a really cool environment for a basketball game and would also be really cool for assistant coach Phil Martelli who has deep ties to Philly due to his time at St. Joes.
We have seen Big Ten games played at Madison Square Garden, such as over the weekend when Rutgers took on Michigan State. That’s always a cool thing and this would be really cool for the Michigan basketball team too.
I for one, hope it happens.
