Rankings aren’t everything

Mason Graham, Mike Morris, Aidan Hutchinson, David Ojabo, Blake Corum, were all ranked outside the top 100 and turned into really good players. Hutch almost won the Heisman and Corum likely would have this season if he didn’t get hurt.

Not many thought all that highly of Graham or Kenneth Grant until they showed up on campus and were dominating. Graham played like he was a freshman All-American and even earned those accolades according to some outlets.

And while none were ranked in the top 100 — Cole Cobana, Enow Etta, and Jyaire Hill are all ranked in the top 200 and have more than enough talent to play in the NFL. They are also good enough to contribute right away and I expect all three of them to do just that next season.

Jim Harbaugh believes in the formula that Michigan has. He doesn’t believe in pay for play and over the past couple of seasons, his teams have beaten up more talented Ohio State teams.

Can that continue? We’ll see.

We all know Michigan is working on NIL and the powers that be are aware that they need to improve it, yet there are still good players in this class and enough talent in this group to win championships as long as U-M’s formula is successful.

Semaj Morgan, Amir Herring, Deakon Tonielli, Evan Link, Karmello English, Semaj Bridgeman — these are all really solid football players. This is a good class but it’s not one that’s going to narrow the gap with the Georgia’s and Alabama’s of the world.
