In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, Tom Brady has officially retired, Jim Harbaugh won’t go to Denver and it’s signing day for Michigan football.

It’s National Signing Day which is always exciting for Michigan football fans. This year’s signing day will have a different feel to it too as Jim Harbaugh won’t be leaving for the NFL.

First, though, some other major news concerning a former Michigan football great as Tom Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl winner, has announced his retirement from the NFL.

Brady posted on Instagram this morning that he was retired for good. There have been rumors about him playing for the 49ers next season or maybe even going back to New England.

Instead, it looks like Tom will head to the broadcast booth after wrapping up the greatest career in NFL history. He’s one Michigan Wolverines fans will cherish forever, both for what he did as a Michigan football player (beating OSU and winning the Orange Bowl) and his incredible career.

Michigan Wolverines don’t have to worry about Jim Harbaugh

Maybe the best bit of news for Michigan football fans on Tuesday was the announcement of Sean Payton as Denver Broncos head coach.

With the reports that Harbaugh had met with Denver’s owner recently, there was some concern that he was still an option for the Broncos. Now, that option is off the board.

Harbaugh is expected to sign a contract extension with the Michigan Wolverines soon and the sooner that happens the better. For recruiting and all that, it will be a good thing.

But what matters is that next season, Harbaugh will be back coaching Michigan football.

Michigan football signing day intel

In terms of college football recruiting, it’s National Signing Day. Early Signing Day has taken over as the big day but the Michigan Wolverines are still hoping to add to their 2023 class on Wednesday.

Five-star Nyckoles Harbor was the big hope but that doesn’t seem like that will happen barring a major surprise. Michigan is trying to flip top-500 defensive end Cameron Brandt from Stanford, but the Cardinal are working hard to keep him.

Another name to watch today is Jamel Howard. The former Wisconsin pledge was going to announce last night but canceled. So who knows as Michigan, Wisconsin, and LSU are all in the mix.

One commitment would be solid. Two would be a win and zero would be a failure in my book because Michigan football had a legit chance to land all three guys. NIL appears that it will cost Michigan Harbor and frankly, it’s disappointing.

Final thoughts heading into Signing Day. dark. Next

Michigan’s NIL program has to be the worst of any elite college football program and it gets really frustrating watching the program have to compete with one hand tied behind its back.
