Michigan Football: Final thoughts for Wolverines before signing day
The Michigan football program is hoping to land another commitment or two on National Signing Day and here are some final thoughts for the Wolverines.
Last year, Michigan football fans were worried about Jim Harbaugh and the Minnesota Vikings as the Wolverines basically had nothing going on during last year’s National Signing Day.
Of course, things are a little different nowadays since there are two signing days. Michigan football had a really good day on Early National Signing Day and the Wolverines are looking to add to their 2023 recruiting haul on Wednesday.
Michigan football has been in the mix for five-star athlete Nyckoles Harbor but things aren’t looking great after he got another crystal ball projection to South Carolina.
Here are thoughts on Harbor and other targets heading into National Signing Day
How many commitments will Michigan football get on signing day?
Right now, it’s looking like the Wolverines are going to add one player to the 2023 recruiting class and that’s four-star defensive end Cameron Brandt, who is committed to Stanford.
Brandt is a 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive end. There is some debate about whether he will wind up as an EDGE or a three-technique. Either way, the three-star recruit ranked in the top 500 via the On3 consensus rankings (407th) and 247 sports composite rankings (No. 453) would be a solid addition.
Brandt is out of California and has been committed to Stanford. The Cardinal are working to keep him but all of the expert projections are coming in for Michigan football and whether it’s tonight or tomorrow, Michigan should add another signee to the 2023 class.
Signs pointing in the wrong direction for Nyckoles Harbor, Jamel Howard
As well as the other two recruits Michigan football has a shot with — Nyckoles Harbor (5-star athlete) and Jamel Howard (three-star nose tackle), things don’t look great.
South Carolina looks poised to land Harbor and Oregon seems like the other team seriously in the mix. Michigan football hasn’t dropped out of it yet, as some said, but I’d be stunned if Harbor signed with Michigan on signing day.
It also looks like Wisconsin is going to turn around and land the commitment of Jamel Howard, who decommitted after Paul Chryst was fired. Luke Fickell looks like he’ll get him back in the fold and he’s set to decide on Tuesday night.
So, if all goes well, Michigan will land a talented defensive lineman. The best-case scenario would be adding Harbor too, but that doesn’t seem likely.
But in recruiting, you never know.
