Former Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Scott Turner

Son of former NFL head coach Norv Turner, Scott was recently let go from his role as offensive coordinator of the Washington Commanders.

Washington’s front office has struggled to provide its coaching staff with a high-quality option at the QB position as of late, banking on Turner to act as a bit of a miracle worker and turn around the career of castoff QB Carson Wentz, or make things work with former undrafted free agent QB Taylor Heinicke as of late.

Neither was an effective enough option and thus Turner’s three-year tenure ultimately failed to produce anything better than the 20th-ranked scoring offense in the NFL.

Ultimately though, Turner will likely remain on with a different NFL team this upcoming fall, given his extensive experience coaching in the professional league, working with the Browns, the Panthers, the Vikings, and now Washington.

However, in between his stints with the Minnesota Vikings as QB coach and getting hired on as Ron Rivera’s QB coach in Carolina, Turner joined Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan football staff as an offensive analyst in 2017, working with offensive skill positions.

While the NFL-to-CFB transition can be tough due to recruiting, it is worth noting that Turner does have some college experience, albeit not very recently, coaching at Oregon State and Pittsburgh from 2005-2010.
