Michigan football is hoping to build some momentum on the recruiting trail now that Jim Harbaugh is back and Jadyn Davis is the No. 1 target.

There’s been a lot of news in recent days about Michigan football. First, it was all about Jim Harbaugh returning to be the head coach.

Then, on Tuesday night, there was a surprise report about quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator Matt Weiss who is under investigation for what appears to be some sort of computer-related crime. It’s too early to tell at this point.

However, Michigan football fans want to focus their attention on the recruiting trail, where there is some real work to be done.

Michigan football will be hosting a number of key targets in the 2024 class this weekend for its “Junior Day” but one current junior that won’t be on campus this weekend is Jadyn Davis. However, he’s at the center of Michigan’s recruiting efforts, or should be.

The latest on five-star Jadyn Davis

Davis had talked about making a decision before the new year but delayed his timeline. Jim Harbaugh’s NFL interest probably didn’t help the situation and now, Clemson, North Carolina, Ohio State, and Georgia are all making a push.

Jim Harbaugh is expected to talk to Davis on Wednesday night according to a report from Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports. Yet, Davis is going to visit North Carolina this weekend, while Clemson, Georgia, and Ohio State’s Ryan Day are expected to make in-home visits.

Georgia is also firmly in the mix for Dylan Raiola, the No. 1 QB in the 2024 class, who recently decommitted from Ohio State. Garrett Riley, a new OC addition from TCU, could also help with Clemson’s cause and in-state UNC is “pushing hard.”

However, in a bit of good news, Michigan football got a crystal ball projection on Tuesday from a South Carolina insider for 247 sports. I know he’s not covering one of the teams but he’s got ties to the region and all five crystal balls for Davis are pointing to Michigan football.

It’s probably safe to call the Wolverines the leader right now, but that lead seems to have shrunk a little bit recently. NIL has been a concern too, although Davis doesn’t seem as focused on it as others, it still remains to be seen if you can land a top-flight QB in this day and age without an NIL deal in place or the promise of something.

J.J. McCarthy has been a great example of how Michigan football quarterbacks can take advantage of NIL but I don’t know if that’s enough to answer that question for Davis.

At any rate, Michigan football needs to get Davis to commit in the next month or so, or it needs to start expanding the QB board. This can’t turn into another Dante Moore.
