Jim Harbaugh is coming back as Michigan football head coach, Tom Brady is knocked out of the playoffs, and more in our Michigan Wolverines news roundup.

Michigan football fans got the news they have been waiting for on Monday as head coach Jim Harbaugh announced he was remaining as the Michigan Wolverines’ head coach.

The news was broken by none other than Michigan President Santa Ono, who tweeted that Harbaugh called him and told him he wanted to remain at Michigan. Ono said he informed AD Warde Manuel and that was that.

Jim Harbaugh released his own statement that said his heart was at Michigan and that a wise man once told him “Don’t try to out-happy happy.”

This was a much different situation than the Vikings too. Harbaugh reportedly called Denver and removed himself from contention according to what Adam Schefter said on NFL Countdown on Monday night leading up to the Bucs-Cowboys game.

The final details of the contract will be important. Michigan football has to fix the assistant coach salary pool and NIL. It just has to happen. But as far as the 2023 season, the Wolverines have all they need to be a legit national title contender once again.

I don’t want to say national title or bust. The first goal is winning a third straight Big Ten title, which even with all of these guys back, is far from a guarantee.

Either way, a golden era of Michigan football continues.

Tom Brady exits NFL playoffs

It was a tough year for the Tampa Bay Bucs and Tom Brady. They still won the NFC South and advanced to the playoffs but the season finally ended with a 31-14 defeat at the hands of Dallas.

Brady struggled and had fewer than 100 yards passing, as well as an interception in the first half. He finished 35-of-66 for 351 yards and two touchdowns but the game was never in doubt.

The former Michigan Wolverines great said he would take some time this offseason and decide if he wants to keep playing. Remember, he retired last offseason before announcing a return.

Kris Jenkins returns to Michigan Wolverines

It may have gotten lost in the shuffle just a little bit with all the Jim Harbaugh news, but Michigan football defensive lineman Kris Jenkins announced his return for the 2023 season, joining a bunch of other starters who have recently done the same.

Jenkins was the top-rated run stuffer among defensive linemen according to a Tweet from Zach Shaw of 247 sports citing Pro Football Focus. Jenkins also received a first-round draft grade from the advisory committee, so his future in the league is bright.

And with Jenkins, Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant, and Rayshaun Benny up front, Michigan football should dominate next season and could be as good on the defensive interior as the O-line.
