3 thoughts on Jim Harbaugh remaining Michigan Football head coach
Lots on Michigan football to-do list
Santa Ono did a great job of making sure that the Michigan football program didn’t lose one of the best coaches in the country.
Now, it’s time for them to work together to make sure the Wolverines can actually compete for national championships moving forward. That means figuring out how to do NIL in some fashion that allows Michigan to build a top-5 recruiting class.
Michigan is winning at a level that should allow it to be among college football’s elite recruiting programs. However, it has failed to come to fruition. It will take some investment and there should be more personnel added to the recruiting department, but U-M needs a clear NIL plan.
If Michigan wants to do base salaries for every player, then make it happen. It’s not rocket science. We have seen it can make an impact on the current players. Michigan football kept a bunch of starters and Hunter Dickinson stayed in basketball too.
That’s very promising. Yet, you still need something to be to sell high school recruits because otherwise, landing top-100 recruits, which Michigan hasn’t signed or gotten a commitment from in 2023 or 2024, will be very hard to do.
If Harbaugh inks a long-term deal, one with a buyout that makes it clear he’s done with the NFL interest, will go a long way towards getting the recruiting back on track.
But NIL is elephant in the room and Michigan needs to decide at some point if it wants to compete with the big boys or not.
