The golden era of Michigan football continues

Earlier today, I was thinking about writing an article describing how crazy Jim Harbaugh would have to be to leave the current situation at Michigan football.

If he ever wants to win a national championship, the time is now.

I know it’s not perfect long-term. The Wolverines have things to figure out with NIL and all of that stuff to stick with the big boys.

But right now, few programs have it better.

Michigan football has the best quarterback it has had in a long time — the kind of quarterback you can win national championships with.

The Wolverines’ offensive line will be as good as any in college football and the defense is going to be stocked full of talent too.

There have been departures, yes. But every other team in the playoff, plus many that just missed like Alabama and Tennessee will have new starters at quarterback, not to mention all the other departures that every college football program is dealing with.

Michigan football will have McCarthy, Donovan Edwards, Blake Corum, and 15 of 22 starters back, as well as 33 of the top 44 players on the two-deep, plus the recruiting classes in 2021 and 2022 were loaded.

I’m not ready to say it’s national championship or bust but that’s clearly the goal for next season, along with winning a third consecutive Big Ten title, which in its own right, would be a spectacular achievement and one that seemed unthinkable just a few years ago.

This is a golden era of Michigan football and with Harbaugh remaining as the head coach, it’s one that won’t prematurely.
