Could the golden era be ending already?

I know Michigan football fans are excited about the return of Blake Corum. I am too. But it’s way too premature to call the Wolverines a national title contender.

Michigan needs to prove it can win a playoff game or a bowl game before we start proclaiming this team a shoo-in to win a national title and if Jim Harbaugh isn’t the head coach, all bets are off.

Would Michigan go with Sherrone Moore and try to keep the staff together? Matt Weiss would go to the NFL. Jesse Minter and others could follow, so there’s no guarantee hiring Moore would keep things going the way they have been.

Harbaugh said he believed Moore was ready to be a head coach and he’s the best choice of anyone on staff.

It makes sense too because there are so many talented pieces in place. You’d probably limit the transfer departures and with the offensive line, Corum, McCarthy, Colston Loveland and Edwards, you’d have a really good offense in 2023.

But is Moore the best hire? Or does he just give Michigan football the best chance to win in 2023?

That’s a tough question to ask but if you make an outside hire and you have to bring in a bunch of new staffers, how many current players will stay?

It’s an interesting question but one I’m hoping Michigan never has to answer. I’m worried that this new golden era of Michigan football will come crashing down after just a few years.

Next year’s team will be loaded, as long as there aren’t a bunch of departures, so I’m not worried about that so much as the future.

If Harbaugh leaves, what will this program look like once McCarthy, Corum, Edwards, Loveland, Will Johnson, and all those guys leave? Recruiting needs to improve to keep this thing rolling and that’s hard to do with all of this uncertainty.

And frankly, it’s frustrating that instead of all efforts being put into the 2023 season, Jim Harbaugh is doing NFL interviews again and the dance goes on seemingly without end.
