Harbaugh’s flip bothers me

I don’t blame Jim Harbaugh for doing what he thinks is best for him. Everyone has a right to do that and we all know if the Wolverines had a losing season last year, he would have been fired.

That’s the truth and it’s the cold, hard, reality of the NFL or big-time college football. People have short memories and winning doesn’t last forever.

That being said, after winning two straight Big Ten titles and notching two wins over Ohio State, Harbaugh has about as much job security as a big-time college football coach could have.

If he was going to have NFL interest, he shouldn’t have come out with that strong statement. Maybe he thought it was best for recruiting, but now that it’s playing out this way, it will continue to be used as a negative recruiting tool.

Kirby Smart, Nick Saban, and Ryan Day don’t have all these rumors floating around them all the time and that’s because the interest isn’t there. At least it hasn’t been.

It’s clear the interest is there from Harbaugh and that’s why this whole thing is annoying. His statement about how he expects to be at Michigan is even more annoying. It’s just disingenuous.

If he was 100 percent committed, he wouldn’t be interviewing with the Broncos. I understand he “can’t predict the future” but he knows if he’s going to accept an offer and it seems he’s just keeping Michigan on the hook until it comes.
