A hot Penn State club came into Crisler on Wednesday night and left with their first blemish in six games thanks to the victorious Wolverines.

The maize and blue brought it to Penn State for their third Big Ten win of the season. They built off their win over Maryland on new year’s day by winning by double digits over a Big Ten foe for the third time in as many tries. It was an equal effort for pretty much everyone involved to scratch and claw their way past a streaking Nittany Lions squad.

Here are three takeaways.

1. Michigan basketball is 3-0 heading into East Lansing

The Wolverines could have treated this one like a dilemma waiting to happen, but they hunkered down and were able to remain unbeaten in the Big Ten.

Penn State got down by as many as 15, but they kept getting within reach of Michigan basketball. However Michigan was able to fend them off and give them their first loss since last month against Michigan’s next opponent.

That’s Michigan State and the Spartans are also on a five-game winning streak coming into this Saturday rivalry war.

Before that winning streak, they lost one at home to Northwestern, who just sent Illinois to an 0-3 start in the Big Ten. So anything can happen when these two meet in the I-96 rivalry in what has been a wacky Big Ten season thus far.

It’s fair to say that Michigan’s Big Ten docket has been soft so far. Minnesota is clearly the worst school in the league and they caught Maryland napping for their first win of 2023. Michigan basketball will need those quad-one wins when it comes to March though and they can notch a behemoth one on Saturday in enemy territory.
