Michigan Basketball: 3 takeaways from the massacre of Maryland
By Nick Popio
2. Hunter Dickinson owns Maryland
The seven-foot giant improves to 5-0 all-time versus his home state. He dominated the paint to the tune of 32 points and 12 boards. He also had five fewer field goals made than Maryland did as an entire team. He was actually outscoring Maryland by himself as the contest progressed. Last year he had 21 and in his freshman campaign, he combined for 29 in both wins over the Terps.
Julian Reese fouled out for the Terps. He had a forgettable outing, just like the rest of his teammates. No one reached the double-digit plateau either.
Maryland has now lost four of their last six after starting out 8-0. They’ll meet up with Michigan basketball again in about three weeks in College Park.
Terrance Williams was the only other scorer in double digits. Will Tschetter gave coach Howard some gritty minutes. Any positives that the bench can give the coaching staff are a plus moving forward, especially being so razor thin with Jaelin Llewelyn gone.
It’s going to take some time for the youngins to develop, so having patience is something Michigan cannot afford right at the moment, but will have to deal with.
