Michigan Football: Previewing the VRBO Fiesta Bowl
By Andrew Brion
Jim Harbaugh and Michigan football will be taking on Texas Christian University (TCU) in their second straight trip to the College Football Playoff hoping to advance to the National Championship for the first time in the CFP Era.
TCU is led by Heisman Finalist Max Duggan. Duggan started the season as the backup but ended it a TCU legend. Having already declared for the NFL draft, this could be Duggan’s final game as a Horned Frog.
This season, Duggan has thrown for 3321 yards, 30 TDs, and only 4 INTs, completing 65% of his passes. Duggan has also been effective on the ground, running for 404 yards, and 6 TDs.
TCU’s electric offense has 2 catalysts, running back Kendre Miller, and wide receiver Quentin Johnston. Miller has been one of the best RBs in the Big 12 rushing for over 1300 yards, and 17 TDs. Johnston has been one of the most talented WRs in the country this season, totaling 53 catches, for about 900 yards, and 6 TDs.
On the other end, The Michigan football team is led by JJ McCarthy, who also started the season as a backup, but ended up stealing the job from Cade McNamara after Cade led an unimpressive season-opening win over Colorado State.
Michigan football’s offense will be without star RB Blake Corum, but Donovan Edwards hasn’t been anything shy of a top 5 RB in football in his place. Edwards has 401 yards, and 3 touchdowns in the last 2 games. Michigan’s TE Colston Loveland has also been playing phenomenally lately, grabbing TDs against Ohio State and Purdue.
Michigan’s experienced wide receivers Ronnie Bell and Cornelius Johnson have also been heating up recently, both getting TDs in the last 2 games. I expect JJ McCarthy and the Michigan offense to look to these experienced receivers to get ahead early.
Regardless of the outcome, we’re in for a good one on New Year’s Eve.
My prediction? Michigan 34, TCU 21.
