The Michigan women’s basketball team rolled against Nebraska on the road and here are three takeaways from the Wolverines’ win over the Huskers.

After a huge win last week over North Carolina, the Michigan women’s basketball team went on the road for the restart of Big Ten play and dominated Nebraska on the road, 76-59.

Michigan basketball controlled things from start to finish as the Wolverines opened on a 19-5 run in the first quarter and made 8-of-18 shots from beyond the arc.

Leigha Brown was just short of a triple-double with 20 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. It was also the 500th career win at Michigan for Kim Barnes Arico and here are three takeaways.

Dominating defense

The defining stat in the win for the Michigan women’s basketball team was 6-for-26. That was what Nebraska shot from 3-point range. The Huskers were among the Big Ten leaders in 3-point shooting coming into the game and the Wolverines held them to 23 percent.

Jaz Shelley made 2-of-4 shots from deep but in her first two Big Ten games, she averaged 30 points and Michigan was able to limit her to 19 points thanks to constant double teams.

She attempted just 12 shots and her teammates couldn’t make Michigan basketball pay for the open looks.

Leigha Brown keeps balling

Brown was a huge catalyst in the win over North Carolina with 25 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. On Wednesday in Lincoln, Brown continued her stellar senior season and scored 20 points again while making 75 percent of her shots.

Brown also did a great job of finding her teammates and played a huge role in Emily Kiser and Maddie Nolan knocking down a combined seven treys.

We knew it was a critical addition when Brown decided to use her fifth season along with Kiser but her impact on both ends has been spectacular and she was the best player on the floor once again.

Barnes Arico is becoming a legend

There are other key takeaways, such as the 3-point shooting and how hard it will be for others to beat Michigan if that continues. The Wolverines are 12-1 overall and 11 of those 13 teams have been held beneath 70 points.

The Wolverines won by 17 points on the road and it was the 500th win for Barnes Arico as the Michigan women’s basketball coach and there’s no doubt she’s one of the best in the business.

Michigan notched another key victory on the NCAA tournament resume as well. Nebraska was ranked 31 in the NET rankings which would count as a second straight Quad-1 win.
