We discuss three reasons why Michigan football will beat the TCU Horned Frogs and take one step closer to a national championship.

25 years is a long time in-between national championships. Fortunately for Michigan football fans, this might finally be the year that spell is lifted and the curse is over.

Standing in the way of destiny is the TCU Horned Frogs.

Seemingly one of the most consistent cinderella stories of the college football world, the Horned Frogs find themselves competing in the college football playoff for the first time in program history.

Led by Heisman Trophy finalist, quarterback Max Duggan, the Horned Frog offense is explosive, multiple, and can fly up and down the field. The defense on the other hand plays physical and looks to dominate the line of scrimmage, shutting down the opponent’s run game and getting after quarterbacks making life for passers uncomfortable.

All that being said, Michigan football is a 7-point favorite for a reason and a loss here would be a huge letdown, to say the least.

So why do we feel so confident that the Wolverines win this game and advance to their first opportunity at a national title in 25 years?

We discuss that and more in this article.

Previous playoff experience will pay off

Normally I’m not a “because so-and-so was here last year they’ll win this year”. The reason is that the majority of time in collegiate and pro-sports team experience doesn’t matter when talent and coaching wins out at the end of the day anyway.

This situation, well, it’s different.

After beating Ohio State, winning the Big Ten conference, and making the playoff it sure seemed like the vibe around the players and coaching staff last season was very much so a “happy to be here” type of feeling.

It’s different this go-round.

Michigan football is locked in from the top on down this year — that much is obvious.

The defeat and agony last year have clearly resonated with the leaders and stars of this team. The iconic photo of Donovan Edwards, J.J. McCarthy, Andrel Anthony, and Mike Morris staring on while the Georgia Bulldogs celebrated another trip to the national championship game really seemed to hit home.

The confidence of these Wolverines isn’t cockiness. It’s assured expectation. And at the end of the day, the defeat they suffered last year might be the best thing for them.

That playoff experience last year, knowing what it takes to get the job done, that’s something you can’t replicate unless you’ve been there, and ultimately it’s what will be a determining factor in the Fiesta Bowl against TCU.
