Another season of Blake Corum

Maybe the most disappointing thing of the 2022 Michigan football season, because there have been very few disappointments, is that Corum got hurt against Illinois.

With the way the Heisman Trophy race worked out, Corum would have had a great shot to win the award if he was healthy and able to play against Ohio State and then Purdue in the Big Ten title game.

It wasn’t meant to be but it was still one of the best running back seasons by a Michigan back in history with 18 touchdowns and 1,463 yards, as well as 5.9 yards per carry.

Not to get anyone’s hopes up but Corum has been thinking about a return. He recently had surgery and if he declared for the NFL draft, he might not be 100 percent going through the pre-draft process.

Running backs also have a short shelf life. However, if Corum returned next season, Donovan Edwards would help shoulder the load. Michigan’s run game would be unstoppable and Corum’s draft stock could move even higher.

An NIL deal would help and if he returned, one would think he could make something in the millions.

That’s what NIL is supposed to be all about — getting star players in college a piece of the piece, not paying recruits who haven’t done a thing — so we’ll see if Michigan can convince him to return. That would be pretty sweet though for Michigan football fans.

It would also be nice to see him healthy again in a Michigan uniform since his last run and a couple of games were cut short due to the knee injury.
