In our roundup of Michigan Wolverines news from Wednesday, we talk about a new Michigan football commitment, a transfer, and more Blake Corum.

The incredibly successful season of Michigan football running back Blake Corum was recognized again yesterday as the AFCA named him First-Team All-American at running back.

Corum was already a consensus All-American selection along with Olu Oluwatimi. However, getting the first-team honor meant that Corum is now a unanimous All-American. The previous two players to do that were Aidan Hutchinson and Jabrill Peppers — both Heisman finalists.

Corum should have been a finalist. Michigan football wouldn’t be 13-0 without him. He willed the Wolverines to victory at times and it’s sad to see his position devalued for QBs.

At any rate, this again cements Corum as one of the greatest Michigan Wolverines of all time on the football field. We don’t know if he’ll be back next season. I’m assuming he’s gone until he announces otherwise, but man, what a year it was for Blake Corum.

Another Michigan football player transfers to Iowa

Cade McNamara announced his transfer to Iowa the week of the Big Ten championship game, which seemed like a weird move for a captain to make.

The situation on McNamara’s part comes off as quite juvenile. He was given a fair shake with the Michigan Wolverines. The fans shouldn’t have booed him. That was out of line. He should always be thanked and praised for his incredible 2021 season.

However, J.J. McCarthy beat him fair and square. McCarthy hasn’t always been perfect, but the upward trajectory since the Ohio State game proved Jim Harbaugh knew what he was doing.

At any rate, Erick All, another guy that had some harsh words on the way out the door, and another player I’ll always remember fondly after his game-winner against Penn State, is joining McNamara in Iowa.

It’s not a surprise and transfers are part of the game anymore. Good luck to both of them, just not against Michigan football.

I just wish neither had talked badly about the program and in a way, damaged their own legacies in the process. Time heals all wounds but it will be interesting if Michigan fooball and Iowa meet next season.

Another 2023 commitment

Michigan football has moved up to No.19 overall in the 247 sports team rankings for the 2023 recruiting class after the commitment of Roderick Pierce.

Pierce is a 6-foot-3, 290-pound defensive tackle out of Illinois. He was committed to Wisconsin at one point, but the Wolverines beat out Illinois and Texas for his commitment.

He’s ranked 549th in the 2023 class and is ninth in the state of Illinois, but Steve Lorenz of The Michigan Insider called him one of his favorite verbal commitments. Pierce has a high upside and Mike Elston is a guy I trust to get him to reach it.
