Ernest Hausmann is a huge addition for Michigan Football
Michigan football has landed a top linebacker in the transfer portal in Ernest Hausmann and here’s why he’s going to be an impact player for the Wolverines.
There’s no doubt that Michigan football is being more active in the transfer portal and it’s something that’s really great to see.
The Wolverines have struggled a little with traditional recruiting in 2023, although their 19th-ranked class is still on the way up.
However, in a bit of a surprise, Michigan football is making waves in the transfer portal. Michigan added LaDarius Henderson last week in the transfer portal and on Thursday, the Wolverines landed their second starting caliber player in former Nebraska linebacker Ernest Hausmann.
Hausmann was a three-star recruit coming out of Columbus, Nebraska. Yet, he became a starter later in the season due to injuries and he stood out, almost immediately. Against Michigan football, Hausmann had one of his best games with 10 tackles, a sack, and a tackle for loss. He had 54 tackles total last season including 12 against Wisconsin.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder also visited Iowa and there was some thought that the Hawkeyes could be the team to beat. Yet, others said that Michigan football was the favorite and on Thursday, Hausmann announced his commitment from the transfer portal.
What it means for Michigan football
It’s interesting. The Wolverines have Junior Colson, Nikhai Hill-Green and also we don’t know if Michael Barrett is going to come back or not. This could be a sign that Barrett might be ready to take his shot at the NFL.
At the same time, Michigan plays a lot of defenders, and Hausmann is just a sophomore. He’s got a bright future ahead of him. He struggled at times with missed tackles and in coverage, but in his second year, he could take a big leap.
Many Nebraska fans talked about him being the best young linebacker the Huskers have had since Lavonte David and it was the biggest departure for Nebraska so far in the transfer portal.
Michigan offered him as a recruit and since he’s a freshman, it will make it much easier for him to get in for admissions.
We’ll see what this means for the linebacker depth chart for next season, but going forward, linebacker got even stronger and a position that some viewed as a potential weakness before the season, is going to be a strength for years to come.
