There are a little (two days) over two weeks left until Michigan football’s Fiesta Bowl matchup against TCU in Glendale, Arizona.

Although we will take a deeper dive into the Fiesta Bowl matchup closer to the day of the game, the GBMWolverine staff offers their early thoughts on the matchup and other bowl-oriented topics.

What do you think of Michigan’s playoff ranking of #2? Fair? Unfair? Did Michigan have a serious argument to be #1? What about the other teams’ rankings? Fair? Unfair?

Jordan Bruetsch: The rankings were perfect, in my opinion. Michigan football had a case for #1 since they have the best win in the country, but Georgia is the reigning champion. They deserve to be #1 until someone dethrones them.

Brady Back: The rankings are pretty much what I expected. I’m glad Michigan’s not the #1 seed since they made Ohio State #4. Georgia had a better non-conference schedule and it’s only fair to make them #1.

Nick Popio: I thought Michigan was ranked fairly. Georgia should be number 1 because they are the defending champs and have to be beaten to take their throne. TCU and Ohio State were ranked appropriately as well.

Josh LaFond: Selfishly I wanted Michigan to receive the #1 ranking after taking down Ohio State by 22 in Columbus. But once they kept Georgia at #1 following that win, I found it hard to envision any scenario in which Michigan would jump the Dawgs. Georgia is still the reigning champion and deserves respect in that regard. I think the committee got it right.

Cameron Stokes: I thought it was fair. Georgia is undoubtedly the best team in the country, even though Michigan has the best win in the country. Combine that with Georgia being the defending national champions, and the committee’s very obvious SEC bias every year, and there you go.

Chris Peterson: Georgia dominated every important game too and until someone beats the Bulldogs, they deserve the No. 1 spot. I actually thought the committee got it right.
