Michigan football has made the College Football Playoff for the second straight season and here are three thoughts on TCU, the first-round opponent.

We all wondered if the committee was going to do the right thing and keep TCU at third place and that’s what happened on Sunday, which means Michigan football vs TCU is official in the Fiesta Bowl.

Ohio State did wind up sneaking in over Alabama and that was probably the right call, although I do agree with Nick Saban that I think Alabama is the better overall team.

The playoff committee is supposed to avoid rematches if possible and also, it would have been strange for Ohio State to jump two spots over TCU after the Horned Frogs lost an overtime game on championship weekend to a team it beat during the regular season at the same time the Buckeyes were sitting at home after a 22-point loss last weekend (on their home field).

TCU beat every team on its schedule. That’s only something that Michigan and Georiga can say right now, so the committee got it right.

So, Michigan football will take on TCU on Dec. 31 for a berth in the national championship game, while Ohio State will face Georgia in the Peach Bowl later the same day.

We have 27 days until the Fiesta Bowl and here are three initial thoughts on the Horned Frogs.

TCU earned its spot

There are still some people that don’t respect TCU. But they should. TCU has one of the best players in college football in Max Duggan. He’s a warrior as we saw on Saturday and there’s no doubt this TCU deserved to be a top-3 team.

Of course, TCU is going to have to battle what Michigan football did last year, which was just being happy to make the playoff. The Wolverines were on a magical ride to the Big Ten championship last season and even Aidan Hutchinson said the season felt over after that.

That was the No. 1 goal. If TCU’s No. 1 goal was to make the playoff, they might just be happy to be there and that’s something Sonny Dykes will have to overcome.

But there’s no doubt the Horned Frogs are a heck of a football team and I’m glad that the college football playoff committee saw that and didn’t just hand Alabama a berth along with OSU.
